Cardiology is a medical unit and a branch of internal medicine that deals with heart disorders. It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as congenital heart problems, coronary artery disease, electrophysiology, infarct and valvular heart disease. Subspecialties in the field of cardiology include cardiac electrophysiology, echocardiography, interventional cardiology, and nuclear cardiology.
Some of the diseases that are treated in this department are: congenital heart diseases, coronary artery diseases, infarction, heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmia), peripheral vascular diseases, aortic vessel diseases, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis).
