Hematology is the medical unit that deals with diseases of the blood and bone marrow. The fact that some blood diseases and cancers are seen especially in childhood has made pediatric hematology a much more important and special unit. The Department of Pediatric Hematology works in collaboration with medical departments such as Pediatric Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pediatric Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Radiology.
It deals with many diseases such as weakness, fatigue, jaundice, polycythemia, recurrent infections, weight problems, bleeding, enlarged lymph nodes, bone and joint pain, hemangioma, lymphoma, leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma, as well as thalassemia. The doctors of this department also perform transplants such as bone marrow and blood transfusions.
