Pediatric nephrology is a pediatric medical unit that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of kidney and urinary system diseases in children aged 0-18 years. The kidneys, which ensure water, acid-base and electrolyte balance in the body, are the organs that filter the blood and ensure that harmful toxins are excreted as urine, and provide information on how much blood will be produced in the bone marrow.
The urinary system consists of the ureter, bladder and urethra, known as the urinary tract, to which the kidneys are connected. Congenital or acquired diseases in the urinary system are diagnosed and treated by pediatric nephrologists with a total of 13 years of medical education. Specialist doctors take preventive measures to prevent the recurrence of the disease and prevent irreversible damage such as kidney failure. Depending on the condition of the disease, patients are treated either as an outpatient at the pediatric nephrology clinic or as an inpatient at the pediatric nephrology clinic.
